This is probably a stupid question for you regulars, but having never sold an item... should I pack the item and go to the post office before hand even though I don't have an address until the item sells? Are shipping prices consistent throughout the continental U.S.? Any help appreciated.

This is what I did. take a pic of what you want to sell. So you can put it online. Then take it to the UPS store. let them wrap it and weigh it. Then they can plug in a number for the farthest place you might send it. (Say from FL to Washington state.) Then you can charge that much for S+H.

eBay will do it for you..... just go get on your scale see how much you weigh then step on you scale holding whatever your shipping (unless its something super heavy then you should have an approx weight anyways) subtract your weight and add a 1/2 pound - a pound depending on the size box your shipping it in. Other wise you can guess approx what it is (if you good at that other wise dont). When you get to the price screen it will tell you that you can put the weight in and it will base the price off the shippers zip code. If you use paypal they will print you the shipping label and schedule a pickup so you never have to bother with going to the post office. Paypal is the quickest most efficent way to pay and recieve payment. I would wait until payment was made before sealing the box, I like to provide a of payment reciept printed from the computer with a quick thank you written in pen. It goes a long way when they leave you feedback. If you need any more help feel free to ask me.

Ohh and if you ship Priority make sure you include delivery confirmation.... it .65 cents for that and I think 3.95 for a priority flat rate envelope. I DO NOT recommend shipping standard mail as you can not buy delivery confirmation and the buyer can say her/she didnt get it. ALWAYS get delivery comfirmation.

I used to sell on eBay. So, I can give you some answers eventhough I have moved to a little more advance Internet mareking. : )

If your item can fit into the Flat rate envelope for USPS, I recommend that first. I used to stuff everything in that envelop because weight does not matter.

Also, you can add the eBay calculate on your ad to calculate according to the zip code it is being shipped to. If not, you must weigh the item and depending upon which service you are going to use, you go to there website, put in the weight and the to and from location. It will calculate and tell you the cost.

Weigh it packaging included and use a guide from the post office (UK) or whatever postal/courier service you are using to calculate postage ( do not forget to add a reasonable amount for the cost of any packaging you have used as Ebay guidelines allow you to do this)

Think you cvan go to usps.gov and will give you rates for certain weight types. Then specify a charge that would include the most expensive for the wieght of the package or near that

when you go to the page that the item is listed on, there is a link next to it where you can calculate the shipping

You may find this guide helpful in answering your questions about eBay. It is written from my own experience from selling for 4 years. I've sold about 12,000 items.
