My darling daughter has run a black marker pen line across my PC LCD monitor screen. Its probably not as bad as it looks, and I have managed to reduce the darkness a little, but I want it gone so I don't hold a grudge against her for ever!!

I have used LCD screen cleaner with a microfibre cloth (had some effect) and baby wipes (had no effect).

The pen description is 'Lumocolor permanent 'dry safe' - waterproof on most surfaces + CD/DVD, Lightfast'

Thanks all!

Turn it off. Let it stand for a few minutes. Then do another cleaning moving up and down. Then another across and back. The stuff smears and you need to use a cleaner that removes the stuff from the porous plastic screen.

Don't use anything that has a little softener (skin cleaner or baby wipes). Electricians use a fast drying (flash) solvent. Check your local tech store like Rad Shaq for some.

This is what I'd do - take it for what it's worth.

I'd buy http://www.pixelclean.com (this product does not claim to remove ink or anything, it's just a safe, good lcd screen cleaner).

Then, I'd use the same marker and go over the mark your daughter made. This will make the first mark moist again. Then, I'd use PixelClean and try to remove it. I wouldn't smear the ink, maybe light blot the spot in hopes that it comes off.

Good luck.

A soft cloth moistened with Isopropyl Alcohol. The fluid in CD/DVD cleaning kits would do, or a little windscreen washer additive. Might take several goes though. The screen surface is probably slightly matt as anti reflective so a quick wipe won't do it and you have to see just how wet you can go to "wash"it out.

All you can do is just keep at it with the screen cleaner or impregnated cleaning wipes. It may take some time. Also just let the cleaning agent do its work, don't rub harder! Permanent marker ink is spirit-based and the wipes are impregnated with screen cleaner, aka isopropyl alcohol or isopropanol.

Go back to the LCD cleaner with microfiber and wipe in straight lines in one direction. Before you do that get a damp cloth (very soft, like silk) and run it along the line. Than do what is stated above.

Get some 'old fashoined ' blotting paper or similar, soaked in Isopropyl alcohol or surgical spirit, put screen on its back, pad over mark, something over that to prevent evaporation (heavy gauge polythene) then, something to hold it in place...not too heavy. The theory here is that the stain will be dissolved by the solvent, and migrate to the blottting paper.

dont hold a grudge at all - just send her to a childrens home (Only kidding :) )

just keep cleaning as you have - doing one bit at a time (lighter petrol is a great solvent ) for lots of pens - but try it in a corner and dont rub too hard )

This is not as bad as my kids who filled in the grout between my bathroom tiles with bight red felt pen - and yes it's still their 15 years later ! - good luck
