Iron supplements are a good way to get more iron, if you're not opposed to taking a pill. I was anemic for couple of years, but only during my period, so I had to take supplements. The drawback is that some iron supplements can upset your stomach or make you really constipated. Yuck. However, there are a few brands that won't. Look for a slow release iron supplement, like Slow Fe. I used this one and it worked great! Slow release supplements are gentler on your system and reduce the side effects. Also, drinking plenty of water will help. Your pharmacist can probably recommend a good supplement if you're having problems locating one.

I had this problem after my child was born. I started taking One A Day plus Iron. I incorporated more iron into my diet as well. Try brown beans, raw leaf spinach in your salads and red meat. Also talk to your doctor about an iron supplement. But too much iron will make you constipated, so be careful.

Multi-vitamins and red meats are probably going to be the easiest source. If you don't like eating a lot of beef, I'd recommend putting ground beef in spaghetti sauce. Milk also has some iron and is good for you. You can also try eating some fat free yogurt of you aren't much of a milk drinker.
I know that there is a drink mix in the breakfast isle called Carnation Instant Breakfast. It's a powder you mix with milk and it is fortified with all kinds of vitamins and minerals- including iron.

Take a good multi vit with 18mg of iron, make sure it also has Vit C, Copper, cobalt and Manganese.

The best iron supplement if amino acid chelate which is nonconsiptating.

Avoid ferrous sulfate witch destroys Vit E.

Large quantities of coffee and tea interfere with iron absorption.

do not take iron supps if you have an infection.

Cooked beans and lentils
Pumpkin seeds

Or, you could always take a suppliment.

Raisins are another good source of iron, I prefer the Sunmaid raisins.

I've also used peanut butter but b/c of the scare with a certain brand I'm going to be buying another brand for a while til this is straightened out. (I also will mention this to others to try if they are not allergic to peanuts)

As some of the other posters suggested spinach is another good source too if you like spinach. Mushrooms if you like them are good too in addition to red meat.

But also pls check with your dr to find out if you are anemic to see if you need more help than just from a multivitamin or food.

Eat more red meat if you are a meat eater. You might talk to your Doc and see if he/she can recommend an iron supplement.
