A Diamond ring will last forever ,it's the hardest substance on Earth. A south sea pearl set is made out of a grain of sand by oysters very easily destroyed.

Both are beautiful options. The Diamond takes hundreds of years to form and the pearl comes from an oyster and can take years to form as well. This is basically a matter of personal preference. Pearls look better in a silver setting or platinum and diamonds look better in gold.

Personally, I'd say the diamond ring. But of course that's having nothing to go on as far as the setting for either or the cut, clarity or size of the diamond in the diamond ring.

Pearls! Diamonds are so...common. Diamonds are also overpriced and are often used to support wars and militants around the world. Pearls come in so many different sizes, shapes and colors and settings. They will always be classy and a sign of a woman who is elegant, sophisticated and able to stand out in a crowd of functionally worthless compressed carbon.

Depends on for what!! And the diamond quality vs, the pearl quality.
I would rather have a beautiful top line pearl set than a flawed diamond!

Diamonds for your wife or girlfriend.
Pearls are for young girls and mature women, unless they were specifically requested by your sweetheart I would avoid pearls. Pearls are what a girl gets for high school graduation from her Aunt and Uncle.
Diamonds, for Pete's sake buy diamonds.

For economy, the pearl...most people, however, will want the diamond because of the sparkle. A diamond is also USUALLY worth more.

Diamond is easier to take care of, Pearl will be easily damaged. Also, the diamond retain the price better. (but make sure you purchase from a good dealer with GIA certificate... must be GIA, not other institution)
