Well lets just look at your question. Who had the "US" flag in the civil war the south or north? Okay there were two sides in the conflict. One side, the north, was the United States. Does this answer your question? Honestly don't they teach this anymore in school?

The north did.

The Rebs had the Stars and Bars (the Confederate flag)
