It isn't recommended to introduce more than one new food at a time. Cereal should only be mixed with breastmilk, formula, or water at first. A few weeks later, you can introduce *one* new food. Always wait several days (at least) between introducing new foods.
Also, 4 months may be too young. If he cannot sit upright with only a little support, PLUS lost the tongue thrust reflex (that makes him spit out everything you put in), PLUS grab foods with his hands to feed himself, PLUS chew and swallow foods without gagging, he is probably not ready for solids yet. Those outward signs can indicate that his insides are also not yet ready to handle foreign substances.
You could try backing off for a few weeks, watching to see if he is showing those readiness signs then, and re-introducing solids once those signs do appear. It's not unusual for babies to not show true signs of readiness for solids until 6-9, and even 9-12 months.

My baby also didn't like baby cereal (I tried at 5 months). I quit trying after about a week and reintroduced cereal with a little bit of apple juice mixed in at 6 months and she loved it! 4 months is still young, if your baby doesn't want it, don't worry. Try again in a few weeks!

First of all don't listen to those who say you should not be trying....most docs will tell you to start ceral at aournd 4 months and they should be starting on veggies at around six months with fruits soon after(start with the veggies first or you might have a problem of them only wanting the fruit, or so says my doc and nurses we asked)....of course keep them suplemented with formula or breast milk until at least1 year......
and yes you can add just a SMALL amount of fruit...just remember it is going to take several feedings for the child to get used to the textures of solids........they do make bottles now for baby ceral....that really helped us when we were trying to get our first son used to ceral.....it is not such a big change all at once. and we also mixed a little applesauce with it...just a little....but it helped.....
The answer above mine also makes a good point....ideally you should only introduce one new food at a time....and feed them only that for at least a few days(along with the formula of course)...this allows you to see if they have any illergic reactions to specific foods...if you are feeding many different things you will not know which one it is.....once one has passed you can continure to use that, and then just add only one new one at a time.....

He is probably rejecting it because you are put a spoon in his mouth. Be patient. If he is still rejecting it, wait abit and try again. At your next drs appt ask what other foods he can get if not cereal. Some drs may even say it too early for fruit and such.

The AAP recommends not starting any solids, to include cereal until 6 months, and then introducing 1 food at a time after that.
At 4 months, you should only be feeding your child breast milk or formula.

At four months, he doesn't need baby cereal anyways. Stick with formula or breast milk for a couple more months. By then, he may be more accepting of the change.

Give him a few times to try it. It's new to him, foreign foods take time.
