It is unfair that the football players get to play in the Pro Bowl, but they should be changing that soon. As for the baseball players, we might never really, completely know who did and who didn't take steroids, even though some are as obvious as a camel's ***.

The steriod question is a very tricky subject. The only reason why baseball players are impacted by it is because the MLB steriod policy is a joke, while the NFL has a tougher policy. I know it doesn't seem fair that people like Merriman get busted and still make the pro bowl but the fact is Merriman isn't going after any records. Bonds, Sosa, McGwire all were involved in the single season homerun record and Bonds going after Aarons career mark are big deals in baseball. Its all about the name of the player, there have been plenty of minor league players busted for steroids but you never hear about them cause they are nobodys. Remember the big deal about Michael Irvin getting busted for crack? That made national headlines because of who he is. Merriman isn't a household name, now if it was a Peyton Manning or a Brett Farve, it would be a completely different story.

Well first off Congress SUBPOENAED the Baseball players. It wasn't like they WILLINGLY went. On top of that had Congress not threatened to take away baseball's antitrust power then they never would have showed up. As to why Football lets them play in the Pro Bowl I have no idea. It didn't make any sense to me either.

thats easy. unlike in the NFL, the players union in baseball had serious power and refused any type of drug testing proposed by the owners. congress merely stepped in because it was clear as day to everybody that baseball players were cheating and there was nothing the owners could do about it. the NFL has never had congress step in because the NFL does a good job of policing themselves.
i also dont see the connection between being ordered to appear before congress to testify and playing in the Pro Bowl. collect your thoughts, then post.

It's absolutely unfair.
Sean Merriman should have been banned from the Pro Bowl.
