The attack on a passengers ship is certainly and act of war and got the US into the first world war. Truth of the matter is that the Lusitania was probably carring a lot of munitions to the British, to support their war efforts

it had passengers on it and during WWI, there were many german u-boats in the waters.. the Lusitania was carrying some contraband, but was mainly passengers, the fact that the germans blew up this ship made the US really mad because it was the "final straw"..

It brought us into the war.
Ironic---Germany had the law on it's side when sinking it.
It was carrying a big load of arms & ammunition, which was against the law of the sea.
We used the passengers as decoys.
So we were responsibile for getting them killed.

It brought the Yanks in (at the very end, naturally) as there were over a thousand US citizens killed in the incident.

It made students of history scramble to Yahoo Answers to do their homework. And it helped ease America's leaving isolationism and become involved in the war as an active participant rather than just supplying aid to Britain.

back in the day of basic war fare, that was the spark that got uncle sam involved in trying to save the people of europe,, we should inthe long run had probably been better of letting them self destruct
