Because, its easy to see the good and desirable in other things without wanting to add it to your own.

Take dance, art, singing, or anything native to your country. Something unique to your country. In say America, lets say, "country music," we can find other countries that emulate and even add to this form of music, but that not mean that we would want to take that sound to Nashville and use it in our culture, spreading it on our Radio's. Not to say we wouldn't either, but that's just the point. By preserving something, your not disallowing that other things aren't good, they may even be great, it just doesn't mean that you want to incorporate them into your own countries unique heritage.

France is very careful and PROTECTS ITS LANGUAGE. It filters out, every year, from anything getting in its dictionary that it "doesn't approve of," and tries to keep it "culturally pure." This doesn't mean that the College students in France don't have their own slang and words, but they are allowed into the "mainstream" PROPER USE by such things as dictionaries, etc. Whereas we in America add words every year, such as "Truthiness," etc.

So, it varies what you want to like or dislike about another country. However, just because something, say "Sumo Wrestling" is great in Japan, doesn't mean it will catch on in America, or that Soccer a great staple in Europe will be a big hit in America.

because people are capable of "live and let live."

you can respect and like your neighbors - you don't have to fear them or hate them. thus one can accept that other cultures can have different and acceptable ways of doing things as well.
