I'd say all of the above as long as they move. Earthquakes are generally caused by 2 plates moving - in simple terms the plates are moving and get hung up on one another and the pressure builds and when they break free we get a quake.

Because the plates are clashing together, then causes shockwaves up to the earths crust, which makes a earthquake
