One important note: He (Stan Lee) did NOT create the X-Men out of a form of entertainment, or to put out new characters. What is the MAIN reason why he did so?

He did it to show a side of racism that occurs in real life, how we treat non-white people as if they were freaks cause they were different.

Stan Lee himself said that he couldn't have every hero affected by gamma radiation or mutant spiders so he created a race of super-heroes and villains. The rest is comic and movie history.

Money. he was told by his uncle, the producer of Timely comics, to create something new, so he worked with Didko and others to create everything in the Marvel Universe.

He did not do it for any other reason then the all mighty dollar.

from what I remember, the earliest member of the x-men ever created is marvel girl or jean grey and during those early days of comics, the heroes are often protrayed as the image of perfect human beauty regardless if its man or woman

from what i know (of course i could be wrong), DC comics came way ahead of marvel, therefore jim lee is already established then

those times, presented heroes of 'perfect stature imagery' like superman and batman and of course the opposite of these figures are the villains in forms of monster like images

although i maybe wrong because this time i will be guessing, i think that the x-men was created as a symbol of rebellion from the format popularized by DC comics, i based my answers here as a comparison with mcfarlane's 'spawn' whom was a symbol of numerous criticism to marvel & DC - from its format up to spawn's looks, and most especially from its initial conception

the x-men presented new ideas or forms of heroes that attracted new ideas, this is my second answer.
since the existing formats back then was still in the 'superman' image. presenting characters like the 'wallcrawler' would eventually attract creators and other artists with suprisingly very good ideas that will definitely 'sell'
this IS good money and future investment, smart

aside from these two , i cannot imagine other reasons

could you enlighten me?

Instead of having an individual character bestowed with special powers, as in being bombarded with Gamma radiation to become the Hulk, or being bitten by a radioactive spider, in order to become Spiderman, he created a group of people who were born with special powers.
