a hard disk or a hard drive(hard as opposed to the "floppy" disks),is one of the basic components that your pc is made of.it's a device with very smooth metal platters(disks)inside which are magnetically charged (thru minute electrical impulses)to store information,in binary(1's and 0's)form.spaces with no charge represents zero's and the those with magnetic charges represent one's.imagine a phonograph player with the stylus(the pick up or needle) arm.that's more or less what it looks like inside, but made up of two or (usually)more disks(platters)stacked one on top of another on a spindle rotating at high speeds(a normal pc has 5,400 rpms, higher ends even up to 10,000 rpm's)with spaces for the arms that have points at their ends for putting and reading magnetic charges on the surface of the platters or disks.it's a non-volatile storage medium, meaning the information stored there remains even if you switch off your machine,(opposite - volatile, like your RAM chips)unless of couse you delete that data.it's usually where your windows operating system resides if you have only one HD installed on your pc.it's purpose is to store data - pictures, music, your videoclips, system files...etc.your hard disk, together with your RAM and processor or CPU,make up the skeleton of your system.it's inside your pc case on the lower front attached by screws to a bay.it's the one making all those noises when you boot up your pc(that's the arms reading or checking for the magnetic charges on the surface of the spinning platters).reading the data required by your operating system to start, transfering some of that data to your RAM chips - called "loading"...that is a hard disk.hope that helped.

A hard disk is a device that stores information and data in 0's and 1's. It is non-volitile like RAM (memory is); this means it will not be erased when the PC is powered off.

Data is stored in bytes which is 8 bits ( a bit is a 1 or 0).
Kilo byte is 1000 byes, mega is a million, gig is a billion bytes.
The larger, the more data you can store.

A hard-drive is where everything on your computer is stored. Like your MP3's and DVDs and all the similar stuff, they're all on your hard-drive. Hard-Drive = Hard-Disk or Hard Disk Drive.

Ok, a hard disk is the same thing as a hard drive. This is the place where all your documents are stored (unless, of course, you have an external one.)

very simple...it is a disk that you save information (in the form of 1 and 0's) on. When you click file-->save you are writing to that disk...if you use windows, it is installed on that disk....
