I got picked up about a month ago on DUI charges. tomorrow is my court date. I was wondering tho, do I have to go? I am not going to contest the charges or anything like that. All I really needed to go for was to set up a pay plan for my fine. So, can I just call them and do it over the phone or do I have to go to court?

This is my first offense and there is no jail time. My ticket says to plead guilty that you can just send the ticket in with the payment of the fine in full so... why cant i call the court and set up a pay plan?

Ok, I guess you arent understanding what I am asking. In my state the court appearance is NOT mandatory. Im not saying that I am going to just not go because I dont feel that I have to what I am asking is.... Could I call them prior to my hearing and set up a payment plan rather than having to appear to do so?

GO! Why even chance it? I really think you should go (even though you think you shouldn't have to). Don't unintentionally get yourself into more trouble.

My God, yes, you have to go to Court! Don't even think about not showing up! Then you'll have a bench warrant issued for your arrest and have 2 convictions instead of one. DUI is a serious offense. Go to Court. Tell the Judge you're truly sorry; you'll never do it again and start attending AA today even if you don't think you're an alcoholic. Give the Judge a reason to give you a break. In my state, you'd serve 3 days in jail no matter what. GO TO COURT!

In most states, you can only avoid your court appearance by paying the fine BEFORE your court date. That usually requires showing up at the court clerks office. If you have a number to call, use it. The court certainly knows better that we do.

I don't know of any state in which a court appearance is NOT mandatory in a DUI case....if I were you, I'd go to court just to be on the safe side.

It should say on your ticket if an appearance is mandatory. But I thought most states have it mandatory for DUI. Call the courthouse.

Guaranteed that if you don't show up in court, there'll be a bench warrant issued for your arrest and you WILL go to jail!

no, you'll have to go to plead. Its the judges choice but he might want to give you jail time, and if so, you;d have to be there for that.
