The President ought to be careful what comparisons he is using.

In fact, the tactics used by the Americans during our revolution were seen as brutal and barbaric, by the British, much like how we view the terrorist bombers.

The British and European powers fought in ranks of soldiers and fired into masses of enemy soldiers. Of course, this tactic favored the side with a larger and better equiped and better trained army.

The American colonials were at a disadvantage in armaments and training and organization. They took to using tactics used by the native Indians. Eschewing organized ranks, hiding behind trees and taking sniping shots at the British.

This was views as a vile tactic by the British because the Americans were targeting individuals and not masses and the only way to fight back was to aim at individuals. It is hard to understand this today, but this approach was akin to murder in the mind of the British and not fair war tactics.

Anyway, just a point of history that the President may have forgotten.

This is how I compare the war...AS WAR. It doen't matter who's after who..it's still fighting for a cause.

Take some time and watch this video. It is an interview with 3 former, now tolerant terrorist who have turned against that way of thinking. This interview was part of the AM Morning program on CN8 in New Jersey. It tells it like it is and will surprise you as to where al Queada is breeding terrorists and where their money is coming from.

there is no valid comparison between the revolutionary war and the war on terror.

the revolutionary war was one of a people who had been colonized for hundreds of years throwing off the shackles of their previous oppressors.

the war on terror is a struggle between those who insist that you have the exact same religious beliefs that they have or they will kill you.

i didn't read the article, but i see no basis for any kind of comparison other than to point out that the two are different kinds of conflicts.

There are similarities, in both wars one side used guerilla tactics to fight an enemy that would overpower it with conventional means. Ironic to see we've come full cycle and are on the other side of the coin now in terms of tactics.
