This is really difficult to prove or disprove as people are dying every minute. On thinking about, then, yes it is surprisingly true that if a lightning bug flies in the window someone IS going to die. Similarly every time I cross the road someone IS going to die. Whether the two are linked in some way is unknown and I guess likely to remain so.

It is completely true. The only way to prevent the death is to scrape up the bug guts and spread them on a cracker.

Superstition. Even if it is true and you didn't know the person who died and weren't aware of the death, what difference does it make. People die everyday all over the planet.

My Irish granny told me if you hear a Banshee screaming outside your window that someone was going to die, is this similar.

No. But if a fully-armed F-16 with full afterburners flies into your room, somebody's gonna die.

superstition I believe.
if you believe you will die, then chances are you will make things happen and possibly end up killing yourself silly.
Don't take things too seriously... I have broken mirrors and never had any bad luck! I have walked under ladders and nobody died! :-D
