I like Riddles Penultimate in the Loop. They get all there food fresh from local farmers and you can tell - the food is really good. It is a bit costly, though you dont have to dress up there. Very casual place and really nice people and the menu is hilarious (they throw in jokes on it). The menu constantly changes, with fresh deserts so yummy.

You may need to be more specific what kind of eats you are looking for. Dont go to chain place (chain restaurant) if you are trying to get a taste of St Louis.

BTW: The Loop is on Delmar, near Skinker.
