First off, you have to buy more ram to install. Thats how you get more. To determine what kind and how much it can handle, you have to check the motherboard out. Some older ones can handle 1gig, but have 4 slots. You can put 4 gigs in, assuming its compatible, but it will only run 1 gig. New ones can run 8gigs max.
You have to find the motherboard maker and stats, what ram is compatible, then you buy ram according to what works, you turn off your computer, open the case, flip the clips up, put the ram in the right way, push down evenly till the clips snap in place, then check to see if the ram is completely in the slot, put it back together, turn it on, and everything reads it automatically. Its the easiest upgrade for a computer.

#1 : Look at how much is there now.
#2 : Check with the manufacturer about the max amount of RAM
that your computer can handle.
#3 : Either have a computer shop do the work for you OR
#4 : Go to www.crucial.com. The site can guide you as to the type
of RAM your system takes. Good prices.

You have to buy memory sticks and physically install them into your PC.
This is much easier than you may think. First look up the type of ram your PC takes then I suggest buying it on Ebay thru a dealer with a good history.
Once you get it open your PC cover and you will see cards already installed that look like the one you purchased. There should be empty slots available. Pop the new memory straight into the slot until the end clips hook it and lock it into place. Put your PC cover back on and you are finished.
Note: while your PC is open do not touch the motherboard (largest main board) with your fingers.

Things to consider (1) Can the Mainboard fully utilize the amount or RAM installed? (2) Does the board support the rated speed of the RAM (3) Will the RAM modules physically fit on the board?

find out what kind of ram you need and if you have empty slot for it. it will have to be the SAME KIND that is in your computer now. it doesn't nesesarily have to be the same brand but is preferred.

go to the computer specs and see which type it can accept, go buy it prefferably at best buy, go home and take your computer apart, physically, and look for something similar to what you bought and then either replace it if what you bought is bigger, or put it in a seperate slot, if it has one.
