i get embarrassed actually, because usually when that happens to me I realize that they didn't ask for my help.

I'm just butting my big nose in .

And sometimes people just want to talk or blow off steam, and I interpret that to mean that they want to try to solve the problem. But they don't so whatever advice I give them, they just ignore me, because I'm missing the whole point of them talking about it.

If someone asks for my help and then they just ignore me, I try to let it go. "You can lead a horse to water, but you can't make it drink" In the end, other people have to solve their problems themselves.

that's why I love this Yahoo answers--I can give all the free advice I want!

Advice is there to be taken or declined. No one truly knows the heart and circumstances of a person's situation except that person. Giving advice is not something you can assume will always be accepted. It shouldn't be. You give someone advice, but that does not mean you were right. Even something that is right for you might not be right for another person. That is why we must all ultimately make our own decisions. So when you give someone advice, you cannot assume or even expect that person to take it. It is up to them. They are not obligated to you in this situation, even if you are right.

So I don't take it personally when someone does not follow my advice. I offer it, and it is up to them to do what they think is right. I do admit that I think people should appreciate it more, but it is just not that important. You cannot live someone else's life for them, and you cannot know what is in their heart. Just because they didn't show it does not mean that they did not appreciate it. And if it wasn't good advice, or more importantly, it was not REQUESTED advice... then there is a reason they didn't appreciate it. Think about it.

Just because a person doesn't seem as if he or she is interested in my advice, or wants to take it, no, I do not "hate it"or get mad over it. Whatever reason that person has, it is his right to make the decision, and determine for himself whether my "advice" is acceptable. Some people feel very uncomfortable about coming right out and saying "Sorry, I don't think I can follow your advice right now" Perhaps there are reasons that person doesn't want to have to get into with me. When you give a person your best advice, you are supposed to be giving it with good will. But you have to remember, with equal good will, that the final decision belongs to that person. Not everybody has the ability to decline your advice with "diplomatic skill", and rather than risk saying something that could offend you, they just don't respond at all.
Then again, of course, there are those people who stick their ten cents worth of "advice" in there without bothering to get a proper feel for whether it's the right time or the right circumstances to do that. That takes a bit of diplomatic skill too, which sometimes the advice giver doesn't have either.

What's worse is when they report you only because they don't like the truth that you've told them. You can be nice about it but straightforward, and still they get bent out of shape. Here you are, spending time to give them some solid and sound advice, but because they only want to hear people agreeing with them, then they try to get those that don't a violation. That's really ungrateful.

All you can do is offer advice, they don't have to take it. So many people only want you to hear them out, they don't really want to know how to make it better, they just want a sympathetic ear, and a vote of agreement. In fact if you offer them advice they don't want to hear, its for sure they won't appreciate it, if they had a thumbs down in real life, they'd use it.

It is dissapointing, especially when I take the time to research and type things out for the person. It aggravates me even more when those same people never even bother to pick a best answer.

you never know if they appreciate it . Just ask yourself " Did this person purposely ignore me to hurt me ?" . 9 times out of 10 you'll find that their manners might have been forgoten , but not purposely to hurt you .

absolutely. There's that woman I just gave advice to and she is pretty much acting like a child over it. She really didn't like my answer.
