Dells tend to have problems like that. I will not nor have I ever had a dell. What I would think is wrong is that the power supply inside the computer could have crashed and I would definately take it to the shop to get repairs.

Sometimes if you use the power button to shut off your computer, files in the boot sector can be damaged. This is especially true if you get impatient and do it during the boot up sequence, or when the computer is shutting down. If you have the recovery disc, boot from it and choose to do a repair. If you don't have the recovery disc, I believe you can press F11 while it first starts booting up and there should be an image on a hidden partition that will do the same thing the recovery disc will do. You can choose to do a repair from that as well. The repair should replace the damaged boot files and restore your computer to a bootable state without you losing anything from your computer. The other option would be a complete reformat of your hard drive.

I would say you need to re-load windows. Looks like a program setting was jacked up in the ineruption.

Free if you have the discs.. If not, then you can goto a second hand computer store and buy windows XP for about $50. And re-do it.. Or go see, a "professional" and spend abou $100
