This is serious. A lot of advice books say Oh after you do something good but difficult (finish yucky homework, do aerobics for an hour, etc) THEN give yourself a reward of something you really enjoy. Well, I don't mean this smart ***, really, but I do not understand tht form of motivation. How exactly does it work? Because I'll just get in a funk, not do my work, and reward myself anyway! Help! :-/ I've also met women who are like Oh I have to lose 5 ponuds this month because next month I go to Hawaii. Is that really a motivation? How can it be? Just go 5 pounds fatter and have fun anyway. I would like to understand this better! How can I REALISTICALLY motivate myself towards any doable goal?

find something that you enjoy doing, like going out with a few friends while exercising. i frind that DDR (dance dance revolution) works very well for some, it's a fun way to exercise to music. then afterwards, say, go out with those friends to lunch or whatever. doing stuff alone is never as fun, and this gives you a chance to setup something fun and beneficial with your friends, maybew make a weekly thing even! =D

PS hope this helps! =D

The motivation depends on the goal. If you are going to Hawaii and will be more comfortable with yourself on the beach weighting 5 pounds less, you should lose 5 pounds. If you have a real goal, the reward should not be working towards it, the reward should be achieving it. If your goal is to get your homework done, the reward is not having to worry about doing it anymore. Your motivation is being done with it. You shouldn't need a piece of candy to make you write an English paper. If you do, maybe obedience school is the right answer.

supposedly it just a reward for all of your hard work, but rarely do i actually do the hard work. i sometimes just skip to the reward. they need to figure out a better system. as for women... dont ever tell that to their face. we have a self image that we want to have or maintain. how you see us is completely different than how we view ourselves. 5 lbs may not sound like a lot but to us sometimes thats all the difference we need. i realize we can go '5 lbs fatter' but guaranteed we will be self conscious the entire time

That is a very interesting question. You might try www.wikipedia.com to search for the answer, if you can't find it here.
