Babolats are great raquets for more experienced players. I would recommend starting out with a head raquet or a prince raquet. They are good control raquets and are common for beginners. Don't get Wilson! The're beginner raquets break easily and have a wierd feel to them.

Roger Federer's racket, the nSix Pro Tour, was built mostly for control but also has decent power.

Also, instead of getting a new racket, try finding a racket that you like and changing the strings to something rougher (more control) or TIGHTENING the strings, which adds tension and takes away from power (but adds control).

If you want control. Try any stiff racket light racket with a stiff string and with a surface that is not too big. I would not go to that extreme, though. Head Titaniums are good for control if you are an upper or an intermediate player.

I'm using the Prince Tour Diablo. It has the control of the old Prince Graphite Pro at a fraction of the weight. Another choice would be the Wilson Hammer 6.1.

Tough call on the oversize head. I started with wood racquets and finally settled on the midplus head size. I've never been comfortable with os heads. The ball felt like it was getting away from me and when I tried a tighter string tension to add control, I'd end up popping them.

Good luck.

With a large swing, a heavy racket would probably be best. I recommend a HEAD PRESTIGE OR RADICAL, which murray uses. This can give you alot of power, with spin, but also control your shots. A great racket if you are of a high enough standard!

Look for stiff rackets... Even consider tightening your strings--it may take some power away, but in return you gain more control over the ball!

Prince 03 white babolats don't have too much power, the Babolat Control [red] has great control.
