Hello,

I just went over all the new ads from this weekend, and to my surprise, it seems that Dell is got beat down by hp? If you look at the prices, you can buy a lot more for hp than Dell!

I don't know why is that, so is Dell going down in the market?

Thank you and have a nice day.

I'm not sure why the other people here have said that Dell is bad, because I've had great luck with them. I recently went from my 7 year old Dell Latitude C600 (Yes, it lasted 7 years) to a new Dell E1405. I've had 4 Compaqs/HPs and every one of them has had the hard disk go out on me, so I don't really trust them anymore. The reason you'll find that Dell is more expensive is because they offer discounts in their brochures. My E1405 when built off the website ran almost $1200, but with the sale price it was $800. They actually have a .PDF version on their brochure on the website with the promo codes if you want to see the price differences.

If you ask a computer salseman about Dells or HP they will definitely tell you to go HP. I had this happen to me at Best Buy, with his reason being "They aren't as good so we choose not to carry them". That isn't true, the reason they don't is because Dell sells their laptops themselves, and not through any other stores. Sorry, I answered a little more than you actually asked.

First, basic economics:

If HP is offering more for less that means Dell is selling more than HP and HP is trying to get more buyers by lowering their prices/profit.

Second, marketing:

Everyone has a 'sale price' now and then. Maybe this weekend was HP's big annual sale or something and next weekend will be Dell's big annual sale. Check the ads for a few weeks (or months) to see if it's a trend or a one week thing.

from my experience, dell computers don't last very long. I got a dell and a HP in my house, the HP is 3 months older than the dell but it works perfectly fine, the Dell is sittin in my room barely running, I can't even connect to the internet no more and my cd drive won't read the disc and my CD-RW drive jus opens for no reason when I turn it on. and I've been reading a lot of bad customer reviews about dell lately too.

Dell is aweful. Dell computers last for barely a year before going down the drain. My HP is practically brand new and its been 2 years. Dell's method is... buy cheap, sell cheap. It works, but in the long run people were spending too mcuh money on replacement PCs from Dell and made a switch to longer lasting brands.
