Any TV show I have ever seen that was targeted at women except for talk shows has either bombed or lurched along like a fish in an evaporating puddle.

Grey's Anatomy and Desperate Housewives are solid dramas. Plus, surveys suggest that the main audience aren't women, but males. Neither show really falls under the category that the question has put forth as women's television. Extreme makeover-home edition is about the same, and Dancing with the Stars isa broad hit that draws in more males than females. So, why does television aimed directly at women fail? First off, I know of many women who these programs as demeaning and sexist to both men and women to begin with. Then you have large segments of both genders that sit there and note how idiotic it is most of the time. Then count in the fact that more males watch television than women, and you have your answer.

Because the movies and shows are all pointless. Turn on the Lifetime channel for a minute and check the programming for the week. Each and every show is about one of 2 things, a battered woman or a teenage mother. The plots never changes, just the character names.
Girls meets guy
Guy beats her or knocks her up
Girl perserveres to become a hero
Man is evil
Ijust made a liftime movie!

Because it's done for money. No real soul goes into it because the people making it really cares about their paycheck. Women are a target audience.
