Methadone is used to help heroin addicts
It helps from going cold turkey - in the sense that it weans them off easier. Eventually they are given less and less of a dosage of it as they are going through recovering stages.

methadone is used to help get people off of heroin but people also get high off it. I never heard of her having a heroin addiction so there is only one other reason i think its there
