any vegetable that produces its fruit above and not below ground is a good candidate for a pot. I have several very large(24' diameter) pots that i use for patio veggies. i grow corn, peppers, tomatoes, cukes, spinach, lettuce, chard, cabbage, kale, dill, peas, chives, and a few multiplier onions for the green tops. the bigger and deeper the pot, the better and larger and faster the veggies will grow.

It depends on the size of the containers. I found that tomatoes, squash, bush cucumbers do good. Plant the tomatoes in a five gallon container. Make sure there are holes in the container for air. All herbs are good in containers.

Tomatoes - especially the cherry size.
Peppers of all types.
Lettuce, spinach, radishes.
There are some small varieties of Peas that are perfect for containers.
I've never tried vining plants like squash or cucumbers though.
