ifit is dead it is not dangerous anymore
90% of all snakes are beneficial ,
very few are really dangerous unless you step on them
if it has a wide head it is a viper and dangerous
open the mouth and see if it got hinged fangs ,they will pop up if you rub the mouth backwards over the rim of a glass
and you would have saved time if you had described it here ,color, size ,asnd markings

While a dead snake will not attack you, its venom is still active. Take care if you are inspecting the fangs or any part of the mouth. You don't want the venom entering any cuts or scratches.

Does it have pits between the eyes and nostrils or have cat eyes?
If so it's a pit viper, be careful they can still bit and inject venom after they are dead.

You can post the photo on Yahoo!Photos and I will try to ID it.
http://new.photos.yahoo.com/
You will need to create an album that is accessible by everyone.
Hope this helps!
