I am writing an essay for my college English class on Oedipus the King. It is 2-3 pages typed. I can find quotations and stuff like that - I did think I understood the play - after I paid attention and all that, I do all my work, but... I got a 10/15 on my quiz. So...

Talk about how Oedipus was blind to the truth... he and Jocasta both... The truth was looking them in the eye but they chose to b blind to it until Oedipus decided he wanted to know. Jocasta resorted to suicide so that she would not have to face the truth. Blindness and sight are very important metaphors in this play... Think back to the blind prophet and how Oedipus gouged his eyes out so hat he wouldn't have to look upon anything anymore...

Omg im in 6th grade and my dad made me read it....i sorta understood it so......say how Oedipus was blind in 1 way, and the prophet was physically blind. also, say how they chose to be blind to the truth or light or watever. I completely understand, it but i hoped this helped. Its hard to read college literature when ur reading poems like mary had a little lamb in school..

if i were you, i would discuss both literal and figurative blindness and sight in the play....
the blind proophet that "sees" the future
what were the characters "blind to"?
what things did they choose to "see"?
