Have you ever seen the old Bugs Bunny cartoons were Bugs is a pitcher and he throws a ball that loops and twirls and goes and gets some nachos and then comes right up to the bat and goes underneath it? That's kinda how I'm picturing it.

The pitch the Dice Man has gotten credit for as the "gyroball" is kind of like an overhand slider. The traditional slider travels far right (for a righthanded pitcher) and then crosses left and down. Its effectiveness is measured by the difficulty the batter has in deciding if the ball is going to land on the inside of the plate or the outside of the plate. A great slider will appear to be far inside and then quickly cross to land outside the strike zone, impossible to hit.

The Gyroball has a similar effect but first appears to be high and inside and then lands far outside and low or inside and low. In other words the batter has to decide not only which side of the plate it will cross, but whether it will be high or low. The pitch is effective when its thrown faster than a slider (usually thrown a few mph slower than a fastball), making the whole decision process impossible.

The pitch isn't new. Some old school players have thrown this pitch but its just called a "breaking ball" or "slider" or "overhand curve with movement". The term was probably coined because of Dice's popularity.

Well, theres a WHOLE lot of Argument on whether the pitch can even really be thrown, but the idea of it works alot like a screwball. If a rightie pitcher throws it, instead of a pulling action with the release, the ball apparently moves away from the Pitcher instead of straight to the plate or in on the hitter... it moves sharply down and away from the lefty hitter and down and in on the righty hitter. And vice versa for Lefty Pitchers throwing it. I have no idea if it's a legit pitch, but heres the info and a couple video clips of it supposedly being thrown. The first clip is of sum Kid in Indiana who threw it in a one hitter game win he threw... and the second video is of Daisaiku Matsuzaka, the boston Pitcher now, who supposedly throws the Gyroball, thouhg, he denies he throws one LOL.

And here is the Wiki explaination/description of the pitchand how its thrown.

Gyroball=Myth. There's no such thing, because if there were, there would be a MLB pitcher throwing it.

actually your wrong bc it does exist... you throw it alot like a curveball but when you release the ball you rotate your wrist outward, towards 3rd base, instead of a normal snap which goes towards first... its supposed to put alot less stress on the pitchers arm... and was actually invented by japanese physicists... it also has alot more movement to it but obviously its not an easy pitch to get used to throwing... its true though that "the dice man" denys being able to throw it but he says hes working on it...

I am going safe with this one....... try throwing it with your hand. But if you really have to ask... you really should NOT be throwing it... a simple curve ball reversing your rotation..(towards third instead of first)

With your eyes closed in your bed dreaming, bc it is not a real pitch.
