I think that eating a cake is best, but the self satisfaction of making one yourself, and then eating it is way better than just picking a cake up and saying "Gee, I'm hungry, how 'bout I eat this."

Both! Becasue while you are making the cake you get to lick the yummy left over batter. Then having some after it is done baking.
