I've never met a man wanting to marry on impulse, I though most had the impulse not to marry.

Maybe some people are just more impulsive than others...
I can't possibly imagine proposing impulsively. I would have been thinking about it for years, even talking about it for months with the girl in question.
Maybe proposals just seem like an impulse, because the guy has been building it up inside for a while, and the dam just breaks? Maybe he was waiting for the perfect moment to mention it, and then the perfect moment hit him?

It has nothing to do with being horny, rather it has everything to do with them being co-dependent losers. Only an immature person would want to marry on a sudden impulse. Anyone that gets hooked up with one of these types is bound to find themselves in a very, very, bad relationship. It will end in divorce 99.9% of the time within 2 years.

Age relative again. If around 30, they may just figure out that it's about time to settle down and have a family....if young (20 ish), it may just BE an impulse....anyone who marries with out dating at least 6 mos. is not aware of the other person.....

Because the sex is probably good an guys don't like to think we like to act on impulse. So we take a strong liking for love before we even get the chance to experience true love with the other person.

Maybe when high emotion has taken over common sense, advise him to think for a while and just enjoy the wonderful time he is having. There is not rush. Rush in too quick and when thungs have calmed down a little you might realise you have made a mistake.

When men are "happy" they want to "lock it in" so that they can be happy for the rest of their lives.
Many men are very insecure creatures and need the stability and structure of being married in order to feel secure.
I have been married twice and now I recognize why I made the poor choices that I made.............
