Hard to catch your breath? Seems that you went for workout & makes you pant. Mostly hard to catch your breath is because your lung capacity is not that well developed in the sense that you don't really work you lungs regularly by taking up cardiovascular activities that frequent. Do it slow & progress at your own pace. Don't try to be like those marathon runners coz it takes time for you to be there. Pain in your shoulder & neck? Could be your tight muscles around your shoulder region & your posture is not ideal. Do you sit in front of the computer for 8 hours or more, feeling sore on your neck? That's because an average human being's head weighs 10kg. Your deep neck muscles are not functioning to keep your neck up, thus causing those larger neck region muscles to keep your head high. Same goes for running. You can run but you are not keeping your posture in an ideal position. Take this test & ask a friend to spot for you: march on the spot for 10 to 15 seconds, eyes closed, once finished, open up your eyes & stand where you're, don't move, not even your head. Ask your friend to note that how does your head looks like from the side, your shoulders, the position of your feet. Chances are you find something interesting about yourself & you might not notice it. Someone mentioned heart attack, I don't think so coz heart attack supposed to be on your chest. If you want to be sure what's really wrong with you, go for a medical check up, preferably full body check. Since you're going for check up might as well be full body. Come to think of it, we humans are always thinking about how to make life better for ourselves or others & we tend to neglect our own body, checking to make sure our body systems are function all right. It's like sending your car to the workshop to get it check to see if there's any problem. We tend to do maintenance for other things, for eg, getting a new pair of shoes, new hair style, manicure, pedicure, a new tops or bottoms but we never maintain our own health. It's best that you get a full body check to be sure. As an old saying: prevention is better than cure.

If it's your left side you should see a doctor A.S.A.P. because that could be signs of a heart attack and don't think that's something that can only happen to old people. Or, it could be something called angina pectoris which is not life threatening it feels like a heart attack but usually the pain lasts less than 5 minutes straight before subsiding the doc can give you pills for that. Just see a doctor whenever you can and get it checked out just to be on the safe side.

I know exactly what you are describing - but don't know what causes it! It's almost like a momentary paralysis. One thing I know for sure, is that it's not a heart issue. I've experienced this for probably 25 years and although it doesn't happen often, once is too much because it's disconcerting!
Good question - I'll keep looking back for answers.
