I bought my b-friend his favorite candy, a card, and some stuff from an adult store for v-day. He thinks that because I did not give him much, he should not have to do much for me. He gave me a necklace that belonged to his grandmother (only because his mom gave it to him to give to me). He thinks that v-day is not all about the girl and he should have gotten more if I wanted more. He wont even take me out to dinner! Is valentines day more about the girl or shoud the gifts be equal?

The boy should do more for the girl, always, on Valentine's day. It's sweet for what you did for him, but I still believe that he should pamper you a little because it's about showing you that he thinks you are the only girl in the world for him.

The gifts don't have to be extravagant - they should be an expression of love. A simple handmade card or a coupon for a free massage from yourself is great. What is important is spending the day together doing something romantic. I've been with my husband for 12 years and the most expensive thing I have ever received for V-Day is roses. We exchange the more pricey gifts for Christmas. After all, it wasn't even 2 months ago! You can't expect your significant other to spend a ton of cash on V-Day when they probably just bought you something nice for Christmas.

of course, a Jag, a BMW, maybe a home theater system, but then he has to fork over dinner at a five star restaurant, and hand you a
a 4.5 carat canary diamond ring.
have that necklace checked at the jeweler, if it's worth less than
a thousand dollars, get a new boyfriend.

Its NOT about gifts at all. its about spending time with the person you love. And for him to give you a necklace that was his grandmother's is far more significant than you giving him porn. Grow up, stop being so damned materialistic. And apologies to your boyfriend for being a selfish pig. He is right!

It's about expressing your love for each other. You shouldn't have to put a price tag on it, but you should believe that it's all about guys lavishing presents on women.

It might be good to start a relationship to provide a gift, but if you're already in a relationship, it's all about equality.

Guys generally expect less, but that doesn't mean treat them as though the holiday means less to them.

I think it should be equal. Valentine's Day is supposed to be a celebration of the love you share for each other.

I think equality is the best practice. Talking about a $ limit before hand also helps.

I would dump a girl who thought it was all about her so fast that she would wind up in a mudpuddle.
It is about mutual love in my view.

Equality rules. But your bf takes cheapness to extreme!
