I am not sure exactly what happened. It was working fine then got cut off. Tried to cut it back on and it said there was a prob. with the time and date being wrong and it would not stay on, kept restarting. Cut it back off. A speaker got placed on top of the modem and when cut back on it said something about invalid files and something needed to be checked. I cut it off. When cut back on, speaker had been moved and it said it was going to check the files. That is when it started saying file so and so unreadable and has been deleted and I think it deleted everything because now it wont do anything. Is there a free downloadable solution to this and a way to get all the songs and everything back. Please tell me yes!!!! Windows XP Home Edition for Compaq

rapid had better get best answer, he's dead on. The first thing you should do is boot in safe mode. if that doesn't work, you'll have to reformat it, and best leave that to your boyfriend. But, if he's a computer nerd he'll be able to check the event logger and see what you were doing. I'm not saying you were looking at stuff you shouldnt(porn) but if you did, he could find out.

I'm not sure exactly what happened there, but it sounds like the magnet erased the information. Obviously now you know that magnets erase data from all drives.

You placed the speaker on top of the modem itself and that's it? If so you just need to replace the modem.

Free...sorry I don't think so.

Put it in a USB Hard drive Enclosure and plug it into another computer. Copy the files to the new computer, and by the sounds of it, When you're done doing that, you're going to have to put the drive back in the computer, reformat and reinstall windows....

Try System Restore:
Start, All Programs, Accessories, System Tools, System Restore.
Pretty straightforward process (and easy too).

It sounds like the hard drive might have just crashed. I hope he backed up his data.
