Daytime is the best if it's a clear day but night time is good too, everything's all lit up (why don't you go as the sun is setting then you get the best of both worlds!).

I went to London for the week last May and went on the Eye. Daytime would be best as you'd see the sights a lot better of course but I'm sure the view is stunning at night. Interestingly the queues I expected were non-existant and I was in a pod with just 2 other people and some pods had only 2 people in them.

I've only been up once, and that was at night. Nice to see some familiar buildings lit up, but really you could stand on Waterloo Bridge at night looking up and down the Thames and get pretty much the same effect. Friends who've been up on a clear day have told me it's possible to see right across London to the countryside beyond, as well as having a good aerial nosy at the nearer stuff :] So yet another recommendation for daytime / early evening!

I recommend daytime as you could see clearly the landscape of greater london area provided that its a sunny day. But if you preferred to ride it during the night its fine too. You will see the lights of the city provided its clear night sky.

In the morning to avoid the long lines!! The last time I did the Eye I went as soon as it opened and there were only 3 people sharing the capsule with me.

I think it would be better to go at 6:00 pm, I just went this past weekend and the dawn is around 5:40 pm.

If the waiting line is very long, it could well be night time when you board the Eye even if it was daytime when you arrive. Come early if you do not pre book.
