i recently purchases counter strike source, installed it, and when i try to open it steam opens and says preparing to launch, and thats the end of it. Nothing happens. I tried troubleshooting and reading their FAQ but i could not figure anything out. I even tried reinstalling. any suggestions?

When you first open steam, it has to update. This can take a little while.
I have waited between 5-10 minutes sometimes for it to update. This will also depend on your internet connection speed.
Be patient, let it load and download the updates.

What he said... but I noticed that it can take a couple of days to download updates when I first purchase something on STEAM.
Instead of clicking on the Counterstrike Icon on your desktop, Click on just the steam account, load it from program selection if you do not have it on desktop. click the "my games" tab. It will show it at either 100% or what % has been downloaded so far.
I had slow DSL so takes a while for me.

make sure counterstrike is fully loaded/ downloaded and also check if your computer can handle it
