Because that is the present policy of our government, we were in fact fighting the aggressive spread of socialism, which is an economic term. Democracy is a term used to describe the method by which citizens choose their "rulers", germany was already a democracy, we were trying stop stop an economic system... socialism. We often use the term fascism to denote the highly authoritarian type of socialism espoused by hilter, but it was just national socialism. When examining these terms we must look at their alternatives capitalism, communism and socialism (fascism), this is important because we can then see that we in fact lost WWII before it even began, We consider ourselves capitalist but let's examine these three terms: Communism is an economic system where the means of production are in state control, there is no money as a medium of exchange, as all product is distributed by the state, the individual is subordinate to the state all private property is abolished. Fasism is a system where the means of production are left under the operational control of individuals but the state remains supreme over all, money is used but its value is determined by the state, economic life is controlled by a variety of methods ie. taxation, interest rates, subsidies, duties, tariffs, quotas etc. Capitalism is an economic system where the means of produciton are under individual control, the state cannot intervene in the economy, money is used as a medium of exchange, and its value is determined on a free market basis as it represents only the product which has been produced, individsual liberty is paramount, and property rights are upheld. We fought the fascists to stop its spread through violent means, but have ourselvews adopted its policies, we are no longer free, and do noe clearly live in a socialist country as does the rest of earth. Both capitalism and communism no longer existy as political systems, and it is the maintenance of that status quo, which has led to the redefining of WWII, and WWI for that matter, for if they can remove the ideological struggles involved, we will simply percieve democracy as the goal. But just because a slave is permitted to choose a new master once in a term of years does not make him free.

it is amazing to read some of these answers , some one said something about the people not having any education??? and now??? neither Germany nor Japan declared war on America until they were forced to Germany was under the impression America was Going to war with them against Russia, when Eleanora Roosevelt sent a bogus telegram to Pruesident Roosevelt telling him a U,S, merchant ship had been sunk by German U BOATS, she was Jewish, and trying to keep the Jew's in power in Germany, Pre,Roosevelt declared war on Germany because of that , but, that particular ship was still afloat after the war, Then the U,S, blockaded Japan where no ships or cargo could enter nor leave Japan , that is when the Japanese attacked Pearl harbor,

I didn't think that was what any one thought, we went to war to help protect are allies which was all the country's except Germany, Italy and japan. I was a kid during ww2 and my Dad was in the army he fought in Italy and was wounded there but he never spoke of the war when he finally got home. and when the war ended no one spoke about it ,we did are job over there and that was that.

I've seen people say this(I assume it's younger kids repeating something) and was amazed. they used it to show we had previously brought Democracy to countries(Iraq wasn't first). I know, it's crazy, but history is slowly being re-written. Remember Winston in "1984" worked for the Ministry of Truth rewriting history?
War is Peace, Ignorance is Strength, Freedom is Slavery
“The past was erased, the erasure was forgotten, the lie became truth.” (Page 78, chapt. VII)

Who are these people you are talking about? I am several decades old and I have never heard of anyone, not anyone, saying that U.S. participation in WWII was to bring democracy to German, Italy and Japan. Sounds to me you are socializing and listening to people who do not have enough smarts.

Most people I know realize that the USA went to war in Europe because it was in it's own national interest. It just happens that our national Interest coincided with Europe's at the time and greatly benefited Europe. Note thought that American troops went to just about every prison camp and opened the doors. One of my good friends father use to tell us about when the Americans came and opened the prison doors of the camp he was in and gave them coffee and crackers. It was also in our best interest that Europe become more Democratic.

We went to war to destroy the axis of evil that posed a long term threat to our nations safety! Even without Pearl Harbor we would have been involved sooner or later!
We are faced with another axis of evil dilemma. N. Korea, Iran and the muslim extremists! It's going to have to be dealt with sometime in the near future. Diplomacy appears to be failing with these guys. You can't negotiate or change the hearts and minds of people who passionately hate you with every cell in their bodies! They will only be swayed with force!

I get that too.The answers are sometimes beyond all acceptable reason that it is impossible to actually assess the debt of stupidity or crass ignorance and total disdain for methodical and scientific analysis involved in the air breathing process. A pillow....

Germany and Japan declared war on the US first. We weren't concerned with the type of government they had when it was all over. We just wanted to destroy their capacity to wage war.

Not naturally, but yes.
Actually, Americans have a very skewed world view, and they have had that since James Monroe was President.
In more recent years, the US has also become an intellectual dictatorship, and that doesn't help matter.
