I tried the divxland media subtitler and it says that it can't open the script file. so it didn't do anything.

isn't there a way I can just join a subtitle file with the video...you know just hit export file and bam! i'm done...*sigh*

Yes.
I just did it this morning with the Xvid version of Pan's Labyrinth.
I used ConvertXtoDVD to integrate the SRT file (the subtitles) with the Xvid or DivX file & burn it onto a DVD.
It took almost an hour on dual core PC with 2GB of RAM.... but it worked perfectly.
