I think some people look down on Mexicans because they think they're all like the illegal immigrants. Many people didn't start paying attention to Mexico until the issue of illegal immigration came up, and since this is their first impression of the U.S.'s neighbor to the south, they tend to think negatively of all Mexicans. However, these cultures are more sophisticated than we think. For example, the Mayans who lived in Mexico thousands of years ago were famous for their architecture and the development of the calendar, which wasn't that inaccurate. Some of the indigenous people may still live in huts, but when you compare that with the fast-paced, stressful, and often demanding society that we have here in more developed countries, it may not be all that bad. There's poverty and crime there just as there is here, but they live a simpler lifestyle - we're just too wrapped up in the rat race to notice.

People look down upon Mexicans because they rarely learn English, some of them sneak through the border (which make the legal immigrants look bad), and they end up doing menail jobs that no one else wants to do (for example: laborers, fast food employees, custodians, etc.). People see Mexican people as meek, poor people who can't speak any English (or just enough to get by) that have there own subculture (carcenerias, supermercados, llantaras, ie, meat markets, super markets, tire stores, etc.) and do not mix in with the rest of the English speaking world. We forget about the ones who want to be American, who want to speak English at all costs, and who want to have a better life like most people do. We forget about the ones who make it through college and get good jobs and speak English and are Americanized. Think of Spanish-speaking musicians who cross over like Enrique Englesias, Shakira, and the late Selena. Think of the mayor of Los Angeles, who is Mexican. There are many Mexican workers who are not illegals and who do great things for our country, like serve the armed forces, are CEOs of corporations, and work as hard as the rest of us. But the ones who we see everyday mowing lawns, cleaning floors, washing dishes, working in kitchens, and working on a construction site are the ones we see and we forget about the others that go above the stereotype. That's why I think people look down on Mexicans, and I'm sure there are many other reasons (like racism, for example) but you must come up with your own conclusions.

Let's say I break into your house. Let's say that when you
discover me in your house, you insist that I leave. But I
say, "I've made all the beds and washed the dishes and done
the laundry and swept the floors; I've done all the things
you don't like to do. I'm hard-working and hone st (except
for when I broke into your house).
According to the protesters, not only must you let me stay,
you must add me to your family's insurance plan, educate
my kids, and provide other benefits to me and to my
family
(my husband will do your yard work) because he too is
hard-working and honest, except for that breaking-in part.
If you try to call the police or force me out, I will call
my friends who will picket your house carrying signs that
proclaim my right to be there
It's only fair, after all, because you have a nicer house
than I do, and I'm just trying to better myself. I'm hard-working
and honest, um, except for well, you know.
And what a deal it is for me!!
I live in your house, contributing only a fraction of the
cost of my keep, and there is nothing you can do about it without being accused of selfishness, prejudice and being an anti-housebreaker. Oh yeah, and I want you to learn my language so
you can communicate with me! English is too hard for me to learn.
You should also allow me to vote--in my own language,
since I live in your house!
Why can't people see how ridiculous this is? Only in America....

your an ignorant bigot who has done no realistic research on hispanic cultures and lifestyles. you can not make up your own past and expect it to be right, not one thing you have said is true. do yourself a favor and keep this "opinion" to youself so that you dont make yourself look dumber then you already have.

I dont understand why people look at a race when they see a face anyway. People are people if we all looked the same our world would be boring. all people are beautiful no matter what race they are.
