We are honeymooning there in August. We are going to pick two towns on the Italian Riviera after spending a few days around Nice, France. We are likely going to Santa Margherita near Portofino and I am thinking about San Remo. We would love some beautiful beaches. Any suggestions would be appreciated. Thanks-PJ

If by beach you mean just seaside then it's also good you stop in Santa Margherita (here is a link with the route from Nice

or other sites of the Ligurian Riviera. San Remo is not that nice (if I were you I would go instead to Alassio or Loano or Recco or Imperia or Savona) but it's absolutely a must you go to the Cinque Terre. They are 5 small fishermen villages that can be reached preferably by train or by boat (cars are totally banned if I well remember in 3 of those villages and admitted with restrictions in the other 2) Here below 2 relevant website links :

and the route from Santa Margherita to Riomaggiore (one of the 5 villages)

If instead you mean sandy beaches none of those of the Riviera can be compared to the beaches of Tuscany's Versilia and farer till Punta Ala.
They're not that distant from Santa Margherita but they are worthy with a slight longer trip. From Marina di Carrara till Talamone - with in the between absolutely the best resorts of Forte dei Marmi, Lido di Camaiore, Viareggio, Rosignano ,Vada, Follonica and Punta Ala. Here is a link for yr review of Tuscany's beaches http://www.waytuscany.net/rooten/spiagge.html
and the route from Riomaggiore till Talamone (in the middle are located all he resorts here above listed)

However I wish you're planning yr trip not in the first half of August. All these sites are extremely crowded in August since all Italy goes in holidays in that period (mainly during the first 2 weeks of August). My suggestion is to book yr accomodation as soon as you can otherwise it's possible that you'll find everything outsold. In any case best wishes for yr coming wedding and enjoy Italy, wherever you decide to go.

From Ventimiglia to Savona beaches are not very beautiful, even Sanremo is not so nice (there is the Casino, but the beach is no so beautiful), Genova is nice but no beach, is industrial port : the best area in Liguria is the Cinqueterre, go there, walk throught the 5 villages, swim and enjoy it !!!!
If you want I can send you picture of western part of riviera (from Ventimiglia to Savona) but easter part is more beautiful (from Genova to La spezia) !! And if you have time go to south..... think about 20 h by train from Nice.
If you have a car stop in VARIGOTTI, is just 10 km before Savona, veeeeery beautiful beach and village but very small!!!

You should go to the Amalfi coast the town of Positano is amazing with beautiful beachs and fantastic restaurants. Plus if you go to the amalfi coast you can also spend a night in Sorrento.
