my mom has a 95 dodge intrepid 4dr, 3.3L V6. i was considering to make an offer to buy it for $1500, since its in fair condition and has some mechanical defects (this would be my first car).
i want to know what upgrades i can get to squeeze more life out of an engine with 140,000 miles on it. i dont care if i have to replace half the engine, but i do want to get it to rev quicker and increase the HP. lightweight pistons and flywheel? balanced crankshaft? what should i get. i want to be able to drive this thing at high rpms without worrying about burning out the engine. ill be using this to play around in empty parking lots - burnout, donuts, drifting, etc.

what other performance mods can i get? i was thinking small stuff like a new catback and air filter. how do i make the engine louder?
any chance of upgrading it to a 5 or 6 speed manual?

if this car wont hold up, then what will? i dont want to spend more than $3000 on a car. i was looking at getting an older mustang model before. i saw an '85 GT for about $2k a while back. you think that would do better with a few mods?

At 140K, any mods you did for more horsepower would likely shorten the life of the engine. Just drive the car as is, and save your money to buy a newer or faster car.

The exhaust and air filter mods you mentioned would not effect the engine, but also would not give you a noticeable increase in power. 5% would make no difference to most drivers. To make the engine louder, you would use a resonator at the end of the exhaust, or in place of the muffler. Changing it to a manual transmission would be extremely expensive, as it was not a factory option, and would have to be a custom job.

more longevity,.Do an oil change, and use synthetic oils from here on out, see that the tranny fluid is changed at least once every two years, keep the maintainance current on it.

For get about hopping up the mill. It's not a drag machine, it's a car. looks like your lead foot is gonna burn that engine out with what you are looking to do it

for the performance you are seeking this car is not the one. you should put ur money elsewhere as in a different car. buy an old muscle car or an import and build it.
