emotional child abuse is sometimes worse than physical abuse. You can see bruises and injuries but the scars that emotional abuse leaves is much deeper and more painful. Telling a child that they are stupid, won't ever amount to anything, go away you are not important any thing that you say or do mean to a child or adult is abuse. If you don't want someone doing it to you and you think it is wrong than chances are it is abuse. I was emotionally abused as a child to always be perfect than I married and divorced a man who was both physically and mentally abusive I will take the physical abuse over the emotional abuse any day bruises and broken bones heal faster than thinking you won't ever amount to any thing, By the way today I am married to a wonderful man have a great career and a wonderful family and my first grandchild on the way

Absolutely. Just from the time your child is born if you don't nurture and love him it is doing emotional damage that cannot be undone. Not encouraging them as they grow, harsh language and yelling, degrading comments as in always putting them down on whatever they try. There are all forms of emotional abuse. Even not monitoring the types of TV shows they see or music they listen to. It's a big responsibilty and you always have to look at everything around them and what impact it will have on them. Build that love and trust so they always feel safe and support from you and they can handle whatever life hands them and they'll be strong emotionally.

YES!!! My friend Maggie is a perfect example. Her mother (who was no size 2 herself) always told Maggie and her sister that they were fat and stupid. Both have developed eating disorders, neither has worked as more than a secretary in an office (even though they are both actually very smart).

when Maggie's sister asked her mom if she should marry a guy that essentially abused her, her mom told her she should because she'd probably never find anyone better.

I have seen both these girls - now women - continually beaten down by their mother with words and not fists. It's horrible.

yes when you tell a child that they are stupid or fat that they ask dumb question. That you wish they weren't born or that they ruin your life being born. When you compare them to other brothers or sisters and how much better they do than them. this make a child feel like they can't do anything right and are always trying to please everyone and not doing whats good for them. This could lead to eating disorders an or drug use as they get older.

Yes, there sure is. Constantly degrading a child and making him earn love and affection are examples. It's extremely difficult to prove and have action taken against, but it does affect a child negatively.

Absolutely! Telling your child they are stupid, ugly, they ruined your life, you wish you had an abortion, etc., would be examples.
