Not by a long shot. Acting used to called an "art". Today, art is limited to painting and music. But that is even threatened.

Well there is certainly a different style back in the day; I don't necessarily prefer the acting styles of Carey Grant to that of Pierce Bronsman. Frankly, some of the acting always seemed over the top at times to me in some of the older movies. We have many great actresses and actors now, but the ones i think of are mostly in their 40s and 50s. So, of course the rookies have a way to go before they can even be compared to the older hollywood actors.

Of course old hollywood actors are better can you imagine Brad Pitt or Angelina Jolie acting in a black and white movie. Get with the programme dude.

It depends. I think that Actors today are more spoiled. They take it for granted. The big paychecks of the past are coming to a end.
In today's industry, your a big star with one movie or tv series. Think about it- Julia Roberts.Tom Cruise , Tom Hanks,Madonna, Brad Pitt and a few others are the last of the big mega super stars. Most of the one I just mention are only average when it comes to acting. Except for Madonna, have you seen her in Who's that Girl? Nowdays, the likes of Josh Hartnett, Lindsey Lohan, Josh Hollaway and so many more become instant stars through average acting chops.

I think it depends on the actors, we certainly have a few talented ones. But in old hollywood MOST of them were actually talented. So... if you are considering thenumbers old hollywood kicks new hollywoods butt.
The thing is, we are more concerned about tabloids and controversy than talent now. I mean Paris Hilton...? The younger actors right now are just awful.

I think that there were great actors from the start to present. As the years changed, the movie industry has grown and changed, I think that the actors for their times were great from the beginning to now and I think it will continue to be that way. Of course there are some not so great and everything in between.

No,they can't be compared to real actors,these days it seems that if you are arelative/friend of the family etc. of someone in the business,youv'e cracked it there is very little talent about these days.Also the old actors had "star quality"

i do believe that today's actor are better but not as classy as the actors of yesteryear.
the styles of movies made today are very different from the classics that we used to watch. the leading men were always tall square jawed dark haired manly types.
nowadays it's screen presence not looks or stature that counts

can you find anyone these days that can match the artistry of the old hollywood actors.... like Tracy/Hepburn... James Stewart... Cary Grant, Jimmy Cagney, Rock Hudson, Judy Garland .... i could go on for ages
