We can die now or die later which would you rather have .
Scary that this is the best solution we have come up with .
We still can not get past killing others and forcing our will upon them .
I have a feeling if we had just bought oil from that region of the world and did not try to control it ,well, things would be different .
So when will we elect a visionary leader who will take us past spending billions on a war machine and negotiate and defend our nation alone .Not by attacking others but simply preventing people from dangerous places from coming here .
We do not let people bring tigers over from India to roam free in our woods do we . No elephants wondering around anyplace here are there .
We have got to be the stupidest people in the solar system . Cause anyone who took a look at us would see what a screwed up bunch of folks down there .
I think I would hide on the dark side of the moon and observe us for a while before coming down to make sure we had evolved enough that we STOPPED KILLING EVERYTHING WE DID NOT AGREE WITH OR LIKED OR COULD NOT CONTROL AND TELL WHAT THEY COULD AND COULD NOT DO . Illegal to commit suicide how stupid is that . Oh and I can not kill anyone but the state can . That eye for an eye thing sure has us by the tail still .
Any intelligent life would stop in and leave .

I think it is not only America's duty, but our destiny.

Imagine you found an isolated island in which the natives believed the "volcano god" wanted a sacrifice every time it rumbled. Would you use your wisdom to help them escape from pointless, never-ending killings?

It may be hard for Americans to fathom, but in a lot of places, people don't really understand what Democracy is. Their ignorance is denying them what could be a rich and fulfilling life. There are many places all over the earth, where religion forcibly keeps the people ignorant and backward. Let's imagine we wanted to educate people in certain parts of the Middle East; we would have an incredibly difficult time surmounting the cultural barriers. Imagine if you had a video to show them, and the narrator was a woman? In some places, that would be banned.

Imagine the quest for a better way of life is like a truck. Religion sometimes acts like a big mudhole, preventing the vehicle from ever making any progress out of the ditch. It harshly punishes people for even questioning beliefs that keep them ignorant.

Read what Bush had to say:
"We are led, by events and common sense, to one conclusion: The survival of liberty in our land increasingly depends on the success of liberty in other lands. The best hope for peace in our world is the expansion of freedom in all the world.

America's vital interests and our deepest beliefs are now one. From the day of our founding, we have proclaimed that every man and woman on this Earth has rights, and dignity and matchless value because they bear the image of the maker of heaven and Earth."
President George W Bush - 2nd Inaugural Address - 1/20/05

Throughout his political career, Ronald Reagan believed in the unique heritage of America and our responsibility to be a beacon of freedom to the world, “A Shining City Upon A Hill”.

I believe in Reagan's words. I have travelled extensively, and I see how woefully ignorant many countries are about the true nature of the world. I hear foreign taxi drivers tell stories about America you wouldn't believe. It's all myth and propaganda.

I think Democracy like charity should begin at home. The principles of democracy were totally ignored when our government refused to acknowledge the will of the American people in the recent elections.

If this is what we wish to share with the world, is it any wonder that so many would resist democracy??? We need to clean up our act before we attempt to instruct the world on good government!

That is not the proper test. We need a stable regime in Iraq which is capable of keeping the Taliban and al Qaeda out of power there, lest we wind up with another Afghanistan, where the bad guys work on yet more schemes to bedevil the US. It is almost trivially easy to build a nuclear bomb if you can lay hands on thirty pounds of enriched uranium (I designed a workable one when I was seventh grade), and there is a lot of it around; we don't know how much of Iraq's WMD materials (which are now in Syria) are suitable for weapons should they be recovered by the bad guys, but I would prefer not to find out the hard way.

it's a moot point. We simply do not have the power to do that. Look at how well it's going in Iraq, and that is just one small nation. Bush is just flag waving and dragging out the old "freedom" rhetoric to cover up the simple fact that he 1) attacked a country by mistake 2) alienated most of our potential allies in the world and 3) doesn't have what it takes to win this war. It's easier to preach ridiculous ideals and blame others when they fail than to admit a mistake.

Did he say that?
I haven't seen him say that but my opinion of that issue is that the duty is to defend democracy, but I don't think the duty is to 'bring' democracy.
For those who wish to have a democratic society, or for those who have one thats being attacked, then sure I think that the USA should help them.
But as far as bringing democracy well thats a bit different.

Now countries with oppressive governments and leaders, well ideally it should be the UN that works out those situations... too bad the UN is inept and innefectual in most cases.

No I do not. Democracy works for this country yes. That does not mean every other country has to throw out everything they have done for hundreds of years. I know my 3 boys will not fight in Iraq period. It is dumb to think we can break up a civil war. No it is not the duty of America to change how every one lives their lives. That sounds a little like what Hitler wanted to do doesn't it!?

America's "Duty" is self-appointed, and not without ulterior motives. Our family members are dying senselessly in a bogus war that was initiated on lies and propaganda.

It is not our duty to force other nations to live by our standards. The insurgents and other factions in Iraq are sending us a clear signal that our way is NOT going to be accepted or tolerated, even after we are gone. The "Democratic" government that we establish will eventually fall to them, and things will continue to slide back to the way that they were before we invaded. Another Saddam figure will rise to power, and it will be as if we had never been there. Yet, our friends and family members will still be dead.

no bush in my opinion is the Antichrist. the only reason he is in Iraq is for control of the worlds oil supply unfortunately he has lied directly to the American people about a bunch of issue. he needs to be more worried about what's going on the home front. instead of world domination. we have issues such as our countries education system sad when a suburban child in the same grade gets a better education then a kid living in a lower class neighborhood what happened to equality? that is just an example. our home front needs attention right now. it is time to stop playing the worlds bully!!!!!!!!!!!
