Bart Stupak (news, bio, voting record), D-Mich., is the Pentagon's practice of transporting the remains of military personnel killed in Iraq only to the nearest major airport. Stupak said it "imposes a burden on the family and friends when they should instead receive our support." He has introduced legislation to require the DOD to deliver the remains to the military or civilian airport chosen by the family.

Hawthorne said the military gave her $4,000 for his funeral, but it wasn't enough to cover the $14,000 expense. The funeral home forgave the rest, and neighbors collected $400 to help her get by.

Most republicans support our troops because 90% of them are from the homes of Democrats and independants....it's easy to support the troops when it isn't your kids in harms way. They don't care that our troops are being deployed back to Iraq or Afghanistan before they get a chance to catch their breath or get to know their families again...much less wash their socks! It just doesn't affect them.... My friends son is currently serving his second tour in the middle east. He got hurt in Afghanistan and now he is in Iraq. They extended his current tour almost as soon as he got over there...he is frequently "unavailable" and we don't know where he is. Never mind the fact that he has three sons under the age of 8 here in the US. Never mind that he has spent about 30 days of the last year & 1/2 with them in the same country much less the same city. He loves being in the Army....but why should he or anyone else be stuck in the middle east fighting a war we can't win under a President that lies and doesn't care.

Don't believe everything and all that you read. Yes, there are expenses, but those vets also have other insurance to cover the costs. Where are they supposed to drop off the dead? They cannot fly in to all the airports all over the US.
Of course the Dems would be the ones raising yet ANOTHER ISSUE..but they can't even vote on a resolution to this war. Why won't they spend their time trying to FIX the problem instead of just complaining about it?

REALLY....what the heck does dead body's have to do with support. It is just a body and nothing else. The family's want to retrieve the body not the military. Their time is better spent fighting not doing funeral rights. The Dems have done nothing to support the troops. Not a dam thing. Go preach your Communism somewhere else comrade.

Any links to back this up? I live in a MAJOR military community, and unfortunatley, we've lost quite a few soldiers from our bases. I have NEVER heard this from anyone in the military, nor have I seen a *credible* source.
