It helps. Decent acting classes should make anyone with talent better... even just a class which teaches the basics like "the method" or character development or breathing, projection, and enunciation.

They can also give you more depth as an actor. Have you ever noticed that some well known actors are good but always seem to be playing themselves "as" the character? Tom Cruise is a good example. No matter the role, it's always Tom Cruise as the secret agent, Tom Cruise as the father whose town is invaded by aliens, etc. He's entertaining and marketable, but don't expect to see him holding an Oscar anytime soon.

Other actors, like Meryl Streep, seem to become different people for different roles.

The difference? Often it's training as an actor which can hone basic talent and give it depth.

Acting coaches can also give you the information you need to to make an idiot of yourself at auditions. They'll tell you how and what to prepare, what to bring, what not to do, etc. You can have all the talent in the world, but if you're wasting the casting directors time because you didn't know how or what to prepare, you'll never get to show it.

If you have access to community theatre and are interested in learning "the ropes" of acting and auditioning, you can learn a lot there, too. It might be a good starting place.

Good Luck!!

No, you don't need lessons to become an actor. However, it would be a good idea to start your acting career rather small. Try doing small scale theater work: establish contact with other actors and get your name out. From there you can gain acting experience and make valuable connections.

Now, if you feel that acting lessons would help you get a better grasp on your talent, then by all means, go for it. You know the extent of your talent better than anyone.

Good luck!

Hi,
Of course not! A lot of actors and actressess have this amazing talent which appeal to producers; they get into the movie-making industry right away! However, it is strongly suggested that you take acting lessons to strengthen your skills and to simply become better at it. If you don't enjoy or like acting, though, forget the lessons. No one can be a great actor/actress if they don't even like doing it. It wouldn't make any sense. Many places offer free or cheap acting classes- that would be the best place to start. Good luck! :D

Do you mean like the famous on-the-movies actors or just like local theatre actors?

on-the-movies actors- i would highly suggest taking acting classes if that is what you want, you would need all the help you can get

local theatre actors- you might want to take classes, but I haven't and I have been lead roles in many local theatre prodoctions

No, but it's gonna take you a lot longer if don't take classes. Their are schools that allow you to act in front of hundreds of agents and they train you to ace your competitions. You're just about guaranteed right into the business if you take a class and are genuinely good at it.

It sure helps. But the real question is why would you not want to? If it sounds like too much work then forget an acting career. That is hard work and it is harder without the training.

Yes, you do. There are lots and lots of actors and very few roles available for them, so the better prepared you are, the better your chances.

One key thing you need is a connection to the right people. Some of the most handsome and beautiful wannabes are still waiting for their chance, becausse they don't know anyone.

No. Where did you hear that? Go audition for a local play, and if your lookin at becoming famous, just keep working your way up. All you need is experience.

Money and clout usually come first. If you have these in line, then having lessons would be a good idea. If you dont have money and clout, take lessons and pray to be discovered.
