How do I open email cartoons with the little red "X" in the corner? Nothing I do works.?

A friend sends too many msgs. with cartoons in them. They all have a small red x in the upper left corner and that's all. No picture or other content.

attempt to refresh the image, if not be sure that the browser your using will allow them to load... usually will have a message to click here or look for setting to allow... x is a preventive or failure...

The x means the file is corrupt or missing, they may have got it from a website that no longer contains the content or among other things.
