even if you were big before you had your baby?

Yes, breast feeding caused me to lose weight...pretty quickly and easily. Granted, I only gained 14 pounds with my first son, but it only took me a month to lose that weight and 10 more lbs...all without starving myself or exercising like mad.

Good luck!!

All my adult life I had been stuck at 150lbs. I dieted and exercised and did everything, but I was stuck at 150. I was about 155 when I got pregnant. Right before I gave birth I got all the way up to 178 (I gained 23 lbs)
I got down to my pre-pregnancy weight (155) when my baby was only 2 weeks old. I then continued to lose tons of weight and I am now at 125.
You actually use more calories when you are breastfeeding than when you are pregnant. When you are pregnant, you need 200-300 extra calories a day. But when you are breastfeeding you need 500 extra calories a day.
Do not try to diet while you are breastfeeding. It can cause you to have a decreased milk supply. Eat healthy, drink lots of fluids, and make sure you're getting those extra 500 calories a day.
Even though you are eating more, you still lose weight because your body is taking your fat to put in the milk.

I have 3 children and breastfed my 2nd for a full year and i did notice some weight loss from it but not as much as i thought i would. It always took me a long time to get back to my normal weight, even with breast feeding so i would say don't rely on it as a form of weight-loss but combined with exercise & a good diet the pounds do come off.

Good Luck!

Yeah. It takes a lot of calories to make the milk. I was careful not to eat too much crap, and I managed to lose weight easily (yet slowly) while breastfeeding. It took weight off of my hips, and I have always been thicker there.

A review article published in 1996 confirmed that exclusively breastfeeding mothers showed a greater loss of weight with a decrease in the percentage of body fat as well as hip and lower thigh circumference at three months postpartum than mothers who were bottle- feeding or partially breastfeeding.

Yes breastfeeding will reduce your weight slowly! I've had two kids and breastfed both and lost weight without dieting or excercise for the first few months. Then after that I always excercise and eat right to lose the rest of the weight and get back to my normal weight. All my friends say the same thing too.

Losing weight is simple, eat less calories than you burn. If you were overweight before you had the baby because you had poor eating habits then breastfeeding will not help you lose weight until you change the way you eat. How do I know? Cause I'm also obese and was before I had my third child. I wasn't overweight with my first baby and I got huge after I had her. Breastfeeding alone didn't help at all! I lost the weight only after I dieted and exercised. Then i got fat again with my second baby, breastfed her exclusively and stayed fat cause I didn't diet or excersise. Now I have a third baby, breastfeeding again and am still fat cause I haven't gotten back to good eating and exercise. Got my point? Breastfeeding isn't the magic bullet, sorry.

I heard after six months of breast feeding you'll start loosing your baby weight, but I don't know if you'll loose more from before you were prego.

Breastfeeding can help speed up weight loss. Just make sure you are eating a well balanced diet for you and the baby. Exercise slowly in the first 6 weeks and after that go for it!
