There should be a button on that message that says "click here to reactivate current desktop" It has happened to me before. It happened when my computer was shut down improperly. It's not a virus, it didn't crash...the computer still works. Just click the button. Like I said, it has happened to me. It was either shut down abruptly or not shut down properly before turning off.

There should be a button that says "Re-activate active desktop" somewhere in the error screen of the background. Might also want to just turn it off:

Microsoft Windows XP users

1. Open the Control Panel.
2. Open Display Properties.
3. Click the Desktop tab.
4. Click the Customize Desktop button.
5. Click the Web tab in the Desktop Items window.

If you wish to enable the Active Desktop, check "My Current Home Page". Add your current home page into your desktop or click New to add another web page and/or other Active Desktop features. To update the content, click the Synchronize button.

If you wish to disable Active Desktop, make sure all checkboxes in this window are un-checked.

Microsoft Windows 98, Windows ME, Windows 2000 users

1. Open the Control Panel.
2. Open Display Properties.
3. Click the Web tab in the Display Properties window.

If you wish to enable the Active Desktop, check the checkbox for "Show Web content on my Active Desktop" and select the home page you wish to use as the active desktop.

If you wish to disable Active Desktop, make sure that "Show Web content on my Active Desktop" is unchecked.

Hi there when I get in a fix like this I always go to START--- All programs---accessories---system tools and system restore. It will take your computer back to a safe point and you will not lose anything. It's an easy way out. Good luck and God Bless!!!
