Okay, all the previous answers looked like they were from students. I am a teacher with two high school students, one hasn't taken the test yet. You have the standards off a little, since we are teaching Algebra in 7th and 8th grade yes the Math is at an 8th grade level (this is 9th or 10th in other states). The Language Art portion is based on our 9th grade standards which is why the test is taken in 10th grade.

My daughter passed without any problem and said it was easy, but she has friends who did not. My daughter was lucky and had plenty of teachers who taught to the test. Not everyone does, in fact teachers are told not to teach to a test (that means teach the content that is expected to be covered without teaching all of the supporting content). When the test becomes the most important thing rather then the learning our students will lose the ability to think for themselves and will probably do worst in college then their predecesors. More of our high school graduates will qualify to go to college, but the success rate there may not be as good. But we will be grooming a generation of good standardized test takers. Also over time those students who don't pass the CAHSEE (California High School Exit Exam) will start to drop out.

I took this test and it is very easy. It is about a 7th grade math and english level. I think it is a decent way to help fulter out students that some how just got by high school but i dont know... The test does cost alot of money to run. I think its kinda useless that they make it a requirement to graduate. I mean there is no way your not gonna pass this test under 3 tries unless you just dont care. If u can pass high school and can't pass this test there is no way that would happen. Its a load of BS to me

Yes it's extremely easy. I have no idea how anyone can fail it unless they're doing it on purpose. It's just mostly algebra and a little bit of geometry, basic english and reading comprehension. Nothing to worry about.
