Personally, I mainly listen to old-school r & b from the 1960-80s...it's true, the beats and bass sounds are very smooth and 'cool'...but i really like the genre because of the vocal ranges that are associated with the music...although it's cliche, the artists often possess a 'soulful' vibe that is often lacking in bubblegum pop music...many singers have a strong vibrato that gives you chills especially if the song sends a certain social message to its listeners (think donny hathaway). however, i also listen to rock songs which also tend to possess some soul as well...good question!

Yes, in a way. Besides, that is why people like songs in the first place, they like the words because they are hot and because the beat is hot.

People enjoy R&B for loads of reasons. I like certain things because they have a good rhythm and I like others because of the voice. Some of the songs have fantastic lyrics, so it's a mixed bag really.

I don't think so - people probably like the general feeling and lyrics that go along with it just as much as the beat/sound.

ummm... actually i dont think bout that i like r&b because theres good lyrics... n... good beats... an i enjoy the artists... an partlly cause i grew up with it...
